Hello, and welcome to my final project!

This project is centered around Kate Grenville's novel The Secret River, first published in 2006. In her novel, Grenville uses woman characters and histories to explore women's bodies, duties, and power. Investigating Grenville's take on these topics matters because they are a fundamental part of understanding global history. Further, women's roles in societies are still evolving today and the experience of characters in The Secret River can serve as examples of systems and behaviors to avoid or embrace.

In my project, I narrow my focus to women's bodies, duties, and power in the contexts of Sal in London, the gentry Slippers Lady, settler women characters, and Aboriginal women characters. Please click on the respective pages to learn more, and view the Works Cited on the final page to access my sources. Thank you and enjoy!
